Ich bin schockiert, denn es zeigt auch verletzte Polizisten und eine massive zerstörerische Menge an Randalierern, die ganze Strassenzüge an Autos in Brand setzen, wahllos Fensterscheiben einschlagen und Autos demolieren.
Sogar Benzinbomben werden gegen die Polizeikräfte geworfen.
Das ist sinnlose Randaliererei – mit Gegendemonstration hat das, meines Erachtens, wenig zu tun.
Ich bin überrascht das die Polizei nicht Härter gegen die Randalierer, aber gegen friedliche Passanten auf der Strasse angeht und mit Schlagstöcken maltretiert.

Eine provisorische Parade der sogenannten ‘Love Ulster’ Gruppierung (Pro-Britisch),
mit Fahnenschwenkenden, Unionistischen, Paramilitärischen Musikbands und Mitgliedern des Anti-Katholischen „Orange Order“ endete in abgestimmten Strassenschlachten auf der O´Connel Street, die sich später bis in die Liffey quays und die Kildare Street ausweiteten.

Auffallend dabei war, das die irische „Garda Police“ fungierte, als hätte sie keinen Plan im Umgang mit den unvermeindlichen Konsequenzen der, offensichtlich, streitsüchtigen Parade durch Irlands Haupt-Einkaufsstrasse.

Proteste der Irish Republican Socialist Party und der Republican Sinn Féin Partei in der Nähe der Hauptpost waren friedlich aber ungeordnet.

Manche der Protestierenden präsentierten Plakate mit den Namen von Opfern, die bei den Monaghan Bombenanschlägen vor mehr als 30 Jahren, ganz in der Nähe getötet wurden

„Ich bin hier um zu demonstrieren, und um meine Solidarität mit dem Rest der
Republikanischen Bevölkerung zu zeigen“ sagte IRSP Mitglied, Denis Murphy.

Gefragt, ob er glaube, das sich viele Menschen in Dublin von dem Pro-Britischen „Loyal Ulster“ Marsch belästigt fühlten, meinte er nur „Wer sich nicht belästig fühlt, gehört zu den nicht mitdenkenden Mitbürgern“.

Ein New Yorker, in Dublin studierender, junger Mann erklärte, das er zu den Protesten gekommen sei, weil er sich gegen das Pro-Britische Sektierertum stellen wolle.

„Ich denke es ist lächerlich das die hier marschieren dürfen, nach allem was in Nordirland und Irland allgemein, passiert ist.“ sagte Tim Putzke.

Ein weiterer Ansässiger vertrat die Meinung das der Unionisten Marsch eine „blutige Schande“ sei . „Meinen Sie wir dürften in Portadown marschieren? Bürgerrechte? Es ist eine Schande. Mir wird schlecht wenn ich hier stehe und das sehe.“

Auf den Strassen trugen maskierte junge Männer die irische Trikolore um ihre Schultern.

Die Loyalisten dagegen schwenkten Britische Flaggen und Banner in Vorbereitung auf den Marsch und heizten damit die Stimmung an
Obwohl die Strassen frei waren marschierten die Loyaklisten nicht los.

Nach einiger Zeit räumten spezielle Unruhe Einheiten der Polizei ca. 200 militante junge Demonstranten nahe dem Parnell Monument, unweit der O’Connell Street.

Als die Situation sich aber verschlechterte kamen immer mehr junge Jugendliche hinzu.

Das aufeinandertreffen verschlimmerte sich als unbeobachtet gelassenes Baumaterial in der Nähe, als „Munition“ für die Jugendlichen diente.
Eine kleinere Zahl an Benzinbomben wurden ebenfalls geworfen.

Loyalisten, die Ihre Flaggen und Banner entfaltet hatten, wurden schnellstens mit Bussen zum Leinster House geschafft, dem Sitz des Dublin Parlament, wo eine geschlossene Demo geplant war.

Die Gewaltausbrüche bewegten sich sodann in diese Richtung, wo es zu Zusammenstößen mit der Polizei kam, die den Eingang zur Kildare St. mittlerweile abgesperrt hatten.

Die Unruhestifter waren also gezwungen sich über eine andere Strecken den Weg zu bahnen wo es immer wieder zu Zusammenstößen kam.

Als der Hauptunruheherd sich ausweitete und die Polizei überwältigt werden konnte kam es zu einer kleineren Zahl an Plünderungen und körperlicher Gewalt.
Ein Fernsehreporter sagte aus angegriffen worden zu sein.

Einige Fahrzeuge wurden in Brand gesetzt und Geschäfte, wie auch die Zentrale der Progressive Democrats Partei, wurden beschädigt.

Einkaufspassanten, Kinder and verwirrte fanden sich in einer Massenflucht auf der Grafton Street wieder, bevor sich die Situationlangsam stabilisierte.

Einige Augenzeugen berichteten, die Unruhen hätten vermieden werden können, wenn die Parade rechtzeitig hätte marschieren können und nicht von der Polizei aufgehalten worden wäre.

Als die Polizei dann einige der ansässigen Bewohner verbannen wollte, kam es zu Wutausbrüchen von Seiten der Bewohner.

Acht Zivilisten und sechs Garda Polizeibeamte wurden verletzt. Insgesamt wurden 41 Menschen verhaftet, wovon neben ein paar wenigen Ausländischen Festnahmen, die meisten Dublins Anwohner waren.

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams described the actions of those
responsible for rioting as „entirely wrong and reprehensible“.
Mr. Adams said there was no justification for what happened.

Sinn Fein had appealed to people to ignore this loyalist parade
and not to be provoked by it. „Our view was that it should not be
opposed in any way and we made that clear,“ he said.

„Regrettably a small, unrepresentative group, chose to ignore our
appeal. Their actions were entirely wrong and reprehensible.“

However, independent observer and lawyer Padraigin Drinan was
critical of what she called Sinn Fein’s „blanket denunciations“
of the violence.

„To call the actions of protesters ‘disgraceful’ is off the mark.
Sinn Fein can’t go around condemning ordinary people in Dublin
for their response to an extremely provocative march and a
mishandled Garda response to it,“ she said.

All the establishment parties strongly condemned the violence
with 26-County Prime Minister Bertie Ahern saying there was
„absolutely no excuse for the disgraceful scenes“.

British Direct Ruler Peter Hain said people had the right to
protest peacefully, but it was very important they also worked
together rather than „provoke each other“.

Willie Frazer, of the victims’ group Fair who took part in
Saturday’s rally, said no decision had been made on whether
another parade would be staged in the future.

„We will have to reflect on what actually took place and consider
that because we are not the type of people who give up, 35 years
of terrorism has not deterred us,“ he said.

A group representing the police and politicians from all the
major parties in the 26 Counties have called for an independent
inquiry into how events in Dublin were handled.

But Dublin’s justice minister has ruled out a public inquiry into
the events. Michael McDowell said that gardai would carry out an
„operational investigation“ and learn from what happened.

„Dublin is a peaceful prosperous capital of a liberal open
society,“ he said on Monday.

„We cannot have a situation where a group of thugs prevent some
people from exercising their civil liberties, but insist that
O’Connell Street and the GPO is always available for their
macabre demonstrations whenever they want to have them.“

Republican Sinn Fein Vice-President Des Dalton said the the
events only served to illustrate how „out of touch“ the 26-County
political establishment was with the depth of opposition to the
routing of a loyalist march through Dublin.

„Indeed 26-County Justice Minister Michael McDowell’s willingness
to meet with the organisers of this march while at the same time
refusing to meet with the relatives of those killed in the
British-directed loyalist Dublin and Monaghan bombs or the
relatives of the Stardust tragedy, only serves to further
highlight the gulf that exists between the 26-County political
establishment and the views of ordinary Irish people.

„The people of Dublin have shown their rejection of the ideology
of sectarian hatred and bigotry represented by those who
organised this march. The routing of such a march through Dublin
was a completely irresponsible act with scant thought given to
the consequences or the dangers it posed to people.“
